Slowhand Special for Mr. Eric Clapton
by Niemiera-rodmaker, Mr. John Niemiera
Slowhand Special

Recently I heard that Mr. Eric Clapton is a great flyfisherman,
and I got 2 photos of his flyfishing from my friend, Leo-san.

Leo-san introduced John-san who is a bamboo rod maker to me
and I also knew he made "Slowhand Special"  for Mr. Eric Clapton.

"Slowhand" is another name of Mr. Eric Clapton
It is named after the guitar technique of the God-handed guitarist.
He too, is a gentleman, a flyfisherman, and a master dry flyfisherman.

"Slowhand Special" was born wholeheartedly by John-san.
"Slowhand Special" is the best name of his bamboo rod
and it is just fitted for the mood in flycasting and flyfishing, I think so.

Eric-san will love his "Slowhand Special"
(usually in Japan we add <san> to the name including love and respect )

Flyfishing in Heaven
In my case I love my bamboo rod "Feather in Heaven"
which is made by my dear Danish friend Bjarne-san,

and also I love my briar reel "Heart to Heaven"
which is made by my Italian elder brother Geppetto-san.

"Feather in Heaven" and "Heart to Heaven" both are
named after "Tears in Heaven" which is made by Eric-san.
Bjarne-san and Geppetto-san made them for me and
my son Kenichi.(please read this page also.)

A father who is a flyfisher would like to hand his favorite tackle
to the most important person, and usually the most important person is his son.

I would like to fish with my son Kenichi using our favorite tackle but I can never do it
because he is in Heaven and now he is 18 years old if he were alive.

Eric-san's son is in Heaven and now he is 17 years old if he were alive.(now,2004)
I think Eric-san also would like to fish with his son using their favorite "Slowhand Special" .

When I listened "Tears in Heaven" first I could not stop my tears from the start of the lyrics.
I hadn't known that it was connected with his son but I cried and cried.
Even now I am filled with tears when I listen it.

I would be very happy if we could fish together.
Then we would like to wash our soul with pure air
and we also would like to get four Yamame,
Japanese beautiful tiny trout,
one for Conor, one for Kenichi, one for Eric-san, and one for me.

Here are two photos of Mr. Eric Clapton with his fishing gear.

I remember English flyfishing style like this came into fashion in 1970's in Japan
and I never forget the day when I started my flyfishing.
