How to use the silk fly line as a sinking line

I went fishing to the Pine Lake last Saturday with my friend.
It was very cold and heavy windy day.
The atmospheric temperature was 1degree and the water temperature was 4degree.
The strong wind made riffle all over the water surface of the lake.

The line guide of the rod and the silk line were frozen in casting.
The #2 silk line and my #26 ant floated on riffle and wandered in vain by the wind.
It seemed very hard for me to get any hits by my light tackles.

I thought how to sink my fly and line.
After removing line slack of long cast I dipped my rod tip into the cold water.
The line began to sink and I counted up until all of line sank.
When I counted up to 60 or 70 I retrieved the line very slowly.
The bite to my ant fly suddenly appeared on the tip of the rod.
Thus I could get some hits.

On the other hand while the wind stopped,
I could get some hits also by dry fly fishing of ant as usual.

I could have a fun in 2 ways of the fishing by using one light-tackle-system.

I want to say great thanks to my friends who made my rod, my reel, my line.
Each of them are the only one in the world.

Japanese saws
all saws are made by Hishika kogyo Co. Ltd. Japan (the site written in Japanese only)
Which saw is fitted best for tonkin bamboo cutting in making of the rod?
Bjarne-san will solve this question soon.(click to see his sawing of bamboo)

(I engraved " To Bjarne from Kanzawa & Takeshi" onto each blade of saws)

Tips of tying my original ant

The most important tip is not to trim rest of thread when you attach thread near bend.
The rest of thread help you to tie beautiful round abdomen shown
below photo 1 and 2. (2 is coated by quick drying-glue)
Abdomen does not get out of shape by pulling the rest of thread at the turning point of forming it.
Your tying will finish half when you could form beautiful round abdomen.

(please move your mouse pointer onto below pic)

If you want to tie winged ant you may attach the material such as, CDC, hackle tip back of antenna.
In the hatch of winged ant I usually fish with normal (wing-less) ant by moving it if necessary..

As usual 4 hen saddle packs arrived from USA today.

I was surprised with his quick answer and his cheap price, I could get in just one week
and the total cost is $43 including shipping charge.
I always thank David-san.
I make my Old Stalky by this hen saddle which are silver grade of Whiting.

By the way I went fishing on last Saturday to check my midge flies.
#36 was very effective but #40 was not so good. #36 hit 9 Yamame and #40 hit 3.
I think that the wire of  #40 must be heavy against the size of wings and so it could not float well.
Tying of under #40 hooks are not necessary in fishing except in keeping tying technique.

tips more in my midge fishing
I use very very thin tippet but it is not broken by yamame's run.
You say, yamame is so small fish that the tippet can not be broken.
But the reason of it is not only one.
There are 3 reason in my #2 tackles.
First reason is due to the rod, I use Le Connoisseur 633 made by my friend Bjarne-san.
Second reason is due to the reel, I use small anti-reverse briar reel made by my brother Giorgio.
Last reason is due to the line, I use the #2 Phoenix silk line made by my friend Mike-san.
Le connoisseur and anti-reverse briar reel treat sudden run of yamame lightly together,
and nice buoyancy of silk line lighten a load of surface tension of water.
Collaboration of my tackles present me yamame well.
